Help Fight Breast Cancer

America is currently at war with a vicious enemy that has no mercy or conscience. This enemy selects its victims seemingly at random, and often has demoralizing affects on them and their loved ones. Its minions cause sorrow, disfigurement, and death in unacceptable numbers. It’s not the War on Terror, or even the War on Drugs. It is the War on Breast Cancer.

According to Imaginis.com-an online breast cancer resource center-breast cancer is the second most common form of cancer among women, as well as the second leading cause of cancer deaths in women. The World Health Organization estimates that more than 1.2 million women worldwide will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year, and the American Cancer Society estimates that nearly 41,000 deaths in America due to breast cancer are expected in 2007. To put that number into perspective, 1 in 33 women in the United States will succumb to the deadly disease this year.[1]

But many Americans are not taking these devastating numbers lying down, and have declared war on this quiet killer. The weapons they have at their disposal today are advanced technologies, intensive research, and public awareness. These weapons of war are wielded by scientists, doctors, and most importantly-everyday people. People like Karol Thompson of Lucerne Valley, California.

Karol-an administrator in the field of education-is 1 of the many foot soldiers in the War on Breast Cancer. She will be marching into battle later this November, when she takes part in a 3-day, 60-mile walk to raise money and awareness for the fight. This offensive is being launched by the Breast Cancer 3-Day, a National Philanthropic Trust Project benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Karol and those marching into battle with her are currently hard at work training their minds and bodies for this daunting mission. They walk, jog and spin daily in preparation for the challenge that lay ahead of them. However, willing warriors with toned minds and bodies are not enough to win this war. Like any soldiers in battle, they need sufficient funding in order to continue the fight. Karol’s goal of raising $2,200 for the cause against breast cancer can only be reached by the generosity of people such as you.
